SPECIAL CAUSE
What Can ISPs Do About It?
There are several things that ISPs can do so that they will not be part of the exchange of child poronography.
ISPS who provide free sites can and do have their generosity exploited by pornographers and pedophiles. I found out
that this is true in the case of Yahoo!Geocities. One of the first things that they can do is to have a reporting system
in place so that concerned citizens can report any abusive or pornographic sites.
Webmasters with ISPs should make periodic searches on their machines for key words that could indicate that there is a
site with possible child pornography. Some of the common key words are "boylinks", "boypics", "boypix", "girl links", "
girl love". These sites could also have reference links to "boypics____", "fpc___" or "freshpetals______".
ISPs should also take note for unusually large activity with regards to .jpg files that have particular names. Some
child pornographers "brand" their image scans with a prefix. This is so that people know that they have produced and
posted the images. Some scans are also identified by the abbreviation of the pornographic magazine that the images
came from. If a new site starts to have a lot of traffic in image files, which might start with the prefixes in question,
the site should be investigated. Hopefully someday, the FBI will come out with a special program that will scan sites
for file names, which have been previously associated with child pornography, and should make it available to webmasters
and ISPs who wish to make a list of possible sites that contain child pornography.
