LEXINGTON BAPTIST CHURCH Lexington, South Carolina

Along with a lot of mission ministries around the country, state, and world, there are these outstanding compassion ministries that affect the community.

Impact: On-going, Chronic Need (ARISE Ministry)
ARISE stands for Assist, Repair, Invest, Serve, & Equip.

*Local Disaster Relief
*Ministering to widows and elderly in the community through home repairs and yard work.
*Oil Change ministry to widows and single moms. Along with the changing of oil, the ministry builds relationships through Bible Studies, prayer, and devotional materials.
*Winterizing homes in the Lexington area for those that need a helping hand.

Impact Crisis:
Ministering through Immediate, Unexpected Need - Volunteering and working with
* Daybreak Crisis Pregnancy Center Columbia, South Carolina .
* LICS (Lexington Interfaith Community Services) Center (sorting donations of food and clothes, working in the thrift store, counseling, reception, and phones)
*Samaritan's Well, Lexington, South Carolina - local Christian organization that provides women and children with housing facilities. In addition to lodging, it offers food and other assistance where available. It is a Christ-centered organization. Its facilities have the capability to house up to 20 residents. Other offerings include Christian women mentorship, biblical counseling, bible studies and prayer gatherings, life-skills training, employment coaching, etc..
*Streetside Ministries: Monday Food Distribution to the Homeless done at the church.

Church members are asked to bring one non-perishable food item each month and place them in the LICS Food Bins in the Sunday School Rooms.

Fishers of Men Prison Ministry
Teams travel to prisons in the area and have worship services for the prisoners. Worship services are held on Sunday mornings and evenings. Bible studies are also held during the week.

Specific ministry locations include:

*Lexington County Jail (men and women)
*Kirkland Correctional & Broad River Correctional Facilities (men)
*Goodman Correctional & Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Facilities (women)
*Juvenile Justice Department of DJJ (youth)

Ministries geared to help the youth in the community.
*Annual School Supply Drive.
*Prayerwalking Our Schools
Church members partner together to pray for our schools, teachers, and students on-site. A virtual prayerwalk is also available.
*School Backpack Ministry
This ministry prepares bundles of food each week for children who would not normally have enough food at home on the weekends. Preparations include food pickup, packing bags, and delivering bags to the schools three weeks each month. Seven Sunday school classes participate in this program. Most of the backpacks go to the children of the Gilbert Primary School. Along with the backpacks, the Sunday school classes deepened the relationship with the school by treating the children to a veggie/ fruit tasting at the school's Farm Day program.


L-RD OF LIFE LUTHERAN CHURCH Portage, Michigan

- "Scavenger Hunt For Food". In 2011, 29 members went through their neighborhood and collected 1,000 pounds of food for Loaves and Fishes, which is a food pantry in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Members went out pulling little red wagons to collect the food.

LYTTLEON STREET UNITED METHODIST CHURCH - Camden, South Carolina

This church has quite a few missions. -
*The church is a major sponsor of the local Christian Community Ministries and has on-going collections for food for the pantry,
*It is a covenant church with the local Habitat for Humanity Affiliate. On May 8th, 2005, ground was broken for the affiliate's third Habitat House. The house was constructed on the grassy area of the church property along Fair Street and upon completion the house was moved to its permanent location.
*The church is very involved with U.M.V.I.M. (United Methodist Volunteers in Mission). They have made several trips to Biloxi, Mississippi to help rebuild homes after Hurricane Katrina.
*W.A.R.M. (Weatherization and Repair Ministry) - The first year of repairs was in response to damage caused by Hurricane Hugo and at the urging of LSUMC youth.
*Caregivers - Caregivers keep a watchful eye on our homebound members and members in nursing facilities and assisted living facilities.

MAIN STREET UNITED METHODIST CHURCH - Waynesboro, Virginia

This church provides a small food pantry for the people in need in the community.

MATTHEWS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH - Greenwood, South Carolina

The church has had a Congregational Nurse on staff since 2001. The nurse provides Blood Pressure Screenings; Health Education; Home, Hospital, and Nursing Home Visits; Assistance with Lifestyle Changes; Assessment of Healthcare Needs; Referral to Community Resources; and Provides Health Information.

MEMORIAL LUTHERAN CHURCH - Nevada, Iowa

The church has quite a few compassion ministries. -
*The Care Group provides luncheons for families who have lost loved ones.
*A lot across the street from the church has been turned into Noah's Garden and the abundance of it's produce is shared locally.
*There is a parish nurse.
*Church members meet regularly to make prayer shawls and also make handmade quilts for the newly baptized.
*Also, the church has a downtown building that hosts the Harmony Clothing Closet. In 2010, over 60,000 items of clothing were distributed to over 9,000 people in Story County and the surrounding area.

NEW COVENANT MINISTRIES - Camden, New Jersey

This ministry has a lot of compassion ministries:
*Bicycle Ministry (collecting, repairing, and distributing bicycle to the needy during Christmas), Bike Wash Day in the Fall, *Food Bank,
*Prison Ministry (several times a months groups visit the prisoners at the Bayside State Prisons in Ancora and Leesburg, New Jersey),
*Nursing Home Ministry (4th Sunday of the month, groups visit the residents of the Cherry Hill Convalescent Center),
*Street Ministry.

NEW HOPE COMMUNITY CHURCH - Loudonville, Ohio

This church has several wonderful compassion ministries.
*New Hope's Blanket Ministry meets once a month. They make blankets for babies, graduating seniors and hospital patients.
*KIA is Kindness In Action. It is a way for the church members to help those in our community and to help them experience G-D's Unconditional Love while doing so.
