STORIES FROM THE ROAD

THE OBJECT IN THE SKY
Heading west along I-10 in New Mexico isn't really fun but it's the
only way to head westward to avoid any possible snow
in the higher elevations and this is where the traffic
is if there is a need to get a ride. The only thing
that I hated about this section of the interstate is
that the shoulder was really bad. In some places it
was really smooth but in others it was the pits. Also,
there are diagonally rumble strips clear across the
shoulder to help prevent people, especially truckers,
fall asleep at the wheel.
There was one good thing about this section and that
is the climb over the Continental Divide between
Deming and Lordsburg is pretty gradual. It's hard to
believe that this spot is actually a pass through the
lower Cedar Mountains. This area is somewhat like a
plateau with a width of about four miles.
About three miles from the pass and the Divide, I
started to notice this thing flying along the
mountains to the north of me. It seemed quite low and
it also was traveling quite slow. Also, it seemed to
be hugging the terraign of the mountains.
I wasn't able to see it clearly since it seemed to be
at least a mile away from me and I didn't have a
binoculars with me. I must have watched it for about
ten minutes before it went behind a mountain and
disappeared from sight.
I wasn't sure what to think of it. It looked like a
blimp but I didn't think of any reason why it was
doing what it did. I knew that Roswell was two hundred
miles away but this would have been a far distance for
anybody to do any testing out of Area 51. I'll just
have to remember it as just an unusual sight that I
had seen.
