STORIES FROM THE ROAD
APR 28, 1994
STOLEN FOOD
I had a pretty good night with my new friend outside
of York Beach, ME. I was glad that the minister had made
the arrangements. Curt was a great guy and a talented
one. Curt and three other musicians had formed a group
and made several tapes of Christian music. What was so
great about it was that the music wasn't recorded in
any large studio but cut right in the group's homes
and also the sounds of nature that was in the area
like seagull calls, ship bells, and the surf were
incorporated into the music. Curt slipped me a couple
of tapes.
When we went outside to the garage to get the bike and
the rest of my gear that I had left on the bike, we
had a bit of a shock. Something had gotten into the
food pannier and taken out all of the food. I was
surprised that the pannier hadn't been bit into but
instead the rain flap and the zipper had been opened.
Curt told me that there was a good possibility that a
racoon had did this.
Curt offered to take me and the bike over to a grocery
store that would be on my way heading north and he
also slipped me ten dollars to pay for the new food.
Now, I could surely say that I had been out-smarted by
a Maine Coon.
