STORIES FROM THE ROAD
SEP 06, 1995
GUEST ROOM
It started to sprinkle around thirteen miles out of
Nolansville on ALT US 31. I increased my pace a bit to
get in front of the showers. By the time that I got
into Nolansville. IN, it had stopped raining.
I rode around town some to see if I could find a
church that might have an evening service. I found my
way over to the Baptist church. Before the time when
the service should be starting I had a good time
talking with the pastor. He was phasing himself out of
the church because he lived now about an hour's drive
away.
Nobody showed up for the evening service. It could
have been because of the weather. Before leaving the
pastor called around and talked with one of the
deacons of the Catholic church. I was told to go and
meet the deacon at the church.
When I got there, the deacon said that the church had
prepared a room for people in need and I was offered
the use of it. In the basement of the church was a
room set up like a studio apartment that even had a
shower. There was a stocked kitchen and I was told to
eat anything that I wanted for my evening
