STORIES FROM THE ROAD
SEP 12, 1995
STATE TROOPER
I didn't really know what to expect when the state
trooper motioned to me that I should stop. I thought I
was following all of the state rules as I was heading
south along US 231. When the officer rolled down his
window, he didn't really seem mad at anything.
His reason for making me stop was just to see how I
was doing. He told me that he had seen an article
about me in this morning's Montgomery, AL newspaper. This
was a bit of a puzzlement because I didn't stop to get
interviewed. From what I could figuere out the report
must have been called in by the guy who had stopped me
in North Montgomery as I was heading into the driveway
of a new pastor friend of mine.
I asked the officer how he had known that I was the
cyclist he wanted to talk to since of course there had
been no photo taken. He said that my orange traffic
safety vest with the white crosses on it was the
giveaway since it was metioned in the article. After
about a five minute chat, the officer reached over to
the back seat to get a bottle of spring water that he
had and gave it to me along with ten dollars.
