STORIES FROM THE ROAD
JUN 16, 1996
CLOSE CALL
I was having a good ride heading south on US 68. This
was dispite the fact that the highway was in really
poor shape with a lot of patches. There was no real
shoulder to ride along and there was a lot of truck
traffic.
About a couple of miles south of Traer, IA, I almost had a
close call with a truck. I almost got brushed by a
truck. The truck passed me with just inches to spare.
Right after it happened, the driver of the truck
pulled over.
I thought that he was going to see if I was okay but
all he did was chew me out for almost causing an
accident. In my mind, I almost heard him say that I
wasn't really allowed to be on the same road as he
was. All he had to do to prevent what had happened was
to slow down a bit for the northbound traffic to go by
and then he could have passed me.
