STORIES FROM THE ROAD
February 10, 1997
CHANCE ENCOUNTER
I didn't sleep too well camping out at the Baptist
Church in Vero Beach, FL. The camping spot that the pastor told me about
was too close to the road and just hidden from view by
a few high bushes. It was less than ten feet from the
road. Also, there had been too much light to deal with
from the many street lights. I woke up early and
packed up quickly. I didn't feel like staying in town
to go to church.
On the way out of town to Ft. Pierce, I decided to at
least stop and get a good, hot breakfast at a Denny's
restaurant. Right after the waitress had taken my
order, I got a bit of a shock. When I looked up from
my menu, I was surprised to see some old friends that
I had volunteered with at the Habitat for Humanity
headquarters in Americus, GA.
My old friends were the Corums. I had assumed that the
Corum's had gone back home to upper New York State
when Spring came around. It turns out that they had
rented a rented a trailer in a mobile home park. This
was good for me because I needed some time off the road.
