STORIES FROM THE ROAD
December 11, 1997
BIG DONATION
Today was a really good ride but it was quite cold.
The temperature was in the 40's. It was around 3:30
p.m. when I got into Austin, TX. I found my way over to
the Habitat affiliate's office.
They were a bit surprised when they met me. Somehow,
they were not really expecting me. This was a surprise
to me because I was in contact with somebody there I
thought but maybe the information was not passed
around. I had a good time talking to the volunteer
coordinator. She gave me a tour of the office and
their Re-use store.
I was a bit surprised when she gave me some gifts when
we got back to the office. I got a plate of Christmas
cookies and a t-shirt. Also, I got a card with one
hundred twenty dollars in it. Jane said that she
wished that it could have been more because she wanted
to help me out with what I was doing. She apologized
to me because she couldn't arrange a house stay for me
for the night but she did get a good reduced rate at a
motel just south of the Colorado River but still in
the downtown area. The affiliate had also paid for the room.
