STORIES FROM THE ROAD

MUD
I got off the main section of the NC 54 through the
Research Triangle near Denham, North Carolina
onto a bike path that went through
some woods. This was a bit of a mistake because I
crashed. While coasting down a hill, I was trying to
maneuver the bike so that I could safely go over a
wooden bridge on the bottom of the hill.
The bridge didn't have a good approach. About fifteen
feet from the bridge, the rear wheel skidded on a
patch of red clay mud that was run-off from
yesterday's rains. I wasn't able to avoid this mud and
the bike flipped over to the right and I flew over the
bike onto the bike path.
I scraped the skin below my right elbow and on my
right knee. The cut's were not too deep. The only
major damage was done to my cycling tights and rain
pants.
I praised the L-RD that the bicycle was damaged. It
took about twenty minutes to clean and patch up my
wounds. While I was working on patching up the wounds,
four people walked past me but they didn't offer any
assistance.
I walked the bike about a mile down the highway into
Denham, NC. At a gas station, I was able to contact with
another cyclist in Hillsborough who came and picked me
up for the night.
