STORIES FROM THE ROAD

THE COW
In the small town of Bolton, Connecticut, I stopped for a short
break to use a pay phone to call some friends to give
them some idea where I was. The pay phone was in a
quick-mart parking lot right next to the road's edge.
A dairy farm was right across the road and the farm's
pastures were behind the quick-mart. While I was
talking to a friend in Texas, the dairyman was taking
the herd across the street to the pastures. There must
have been at least two dozen cattle.
One big black dairy cow must have been curious because
it had stopped to check me out. The next thing that I
knew within a foot of my face was the cow's face and a
really large tongue getting ready to give me a slurp.
I sort of yelled out to startle the cow and my friend
in Texas asked me what I had happened. I told him that
I almost got kissed by a cow.
