STORIES FROM THE ROAD

STATE LINE DONATION
Whenever I cross into a new state, I stop at the state
sign and take a picture. Because of this my this, my
bikes get into more pictures than I do. After taking a
picture of the South Carolina state sign, I walked the
bike over to a nearby parking lot so that I can get
some things out of my office pannier.
I needed to get out my South Carolina state map and
also the listing of Habitat affiliates in the state. I
must have been at the parking lot for about four
minutes when this guy in a pick-up truck pulled in
right by me. I guess that he thought that I needed
some help.
I told him that I didn't have any trouble with the
bike. We talked for about seven minutes. Before he
left, he asked me if my ministry took donations. I
told him that I never asked for money but I didn't
refuse it if it was sincerely offered. This must have
satisfied him because he pulled out his wallet. He
didn't slip the currency to me up front but gave it to
me folded in a handshake. When I looked at it after he
had left, I saw that it was a twenty dollar bill.
