TRIP 2001 UPDATES
Update #4 - April 27th, 2001
Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina - 933 miles
It was a good decision to get rid of the trailer. I just wished that I thought about before I bought the trailer. The
ride has been much better since leaving Easley, SC. Speedwise, I went from a low of 8 mph average to well over 11
mph.
I had about three days left in the hills before getting into the flat lands beyond Charlotte, NC. Most of my days have
been over 40 miles per day. The hardest part this section was riding along busy US 74 from Charlotte to Wilmington.
Tuesday, April 25th, I rode 83 miles from Hampstead to Beaufort. Wednesday and Thursday were really tough because of rain
and high winds. This made my ride up the Outer Banks (Ocracoke and Hatteras Islands) pretty miserable. I've got one more
full day in North Carolina before crossing into Virginia.
