TRIP 2001 UPDATES
Update #25 - Aug 11th, 2001
Cincinatti, OH - 5740 miles
The ride from Celina to Cincinatti went okay. It seems that the Ohio River was pulling me along. The heat wasn't really
bad this section. There were just a couple of days in the nineties. The terrain was mostly flat except for the last sixty
or so miles to Cincinatti.
For lodging, I stayed at churches in Troy and Lebanon. They were pretty good. The church in Troy even had a shower for me
to use. There were pretty good couches for me to sleep on and I didn't have to climb into my sleeping bag.
There was pretty neat scenery to see while riding through the farmland of Southern Ohio. From downtown Dayton to
Miamisburg, I rode along the paved bikepath next to the Miami River. The trail lasted about fifteen miles and it was
well maintained really nice.
I've been staying with new friends in the NE part of Cincinatti. The wife is on the board of the Cincinatti Habitat for
Humanity affiliate. She gave birth to their second son just eight weeks ago.
Tomorrow after church, I should be crossing the Ohio River into Kentucky. It's hard to believe that Kentucky will be my
twentieth state for the year. I am planning to check out the Christian Appalachian Project to see how they compare to
Habitat for Humanity. After Kentucky, I'll be heading south to Baldwin, Louisiana before turning Eastward to Georgia.
I should be out a little more than a month.
My health has been pretty good. The only problem is that I've been waking up pretty early. I'm having a bit of a time
getting used to being in the Eastern Time Zone again.
