TRIP 2002

Update #9 - February 15th
Madisonville, Texas - 1,748 miles (2797 KM)

The ride from Caldwell to Madisonville went okay. The weather was a lot better than I expected. For the past couple of days, the temperature has been in the sixties.

Yesterday's ride total between Caldwell and Bryan was short because I had found a pretty bad tread cut on my back tire. I don't know what had happened to it or what I might have run over. All, I know was that it wasn't there a couple of days ago when I checked out the tires (I do this every morning).

The cut was really bad. There was no way that I could have ridden the 26 miles to Bryan. After walking the bike a couple of miles, I got picked up and taken into College Station. I got taken to the best bike shop in the Bryan-College Station area (Aggieland Bicycles). They were so nice. I got a $30 Avocet Cross Tire (85 psi) for $20. The owner of the shop waived the tax and also installed the tire on the wheel for free. This tire should be a lot better riding on. Hopefully, this will last a lot longer than the last one (just 1,300 miles).

Today's ride between Bryan and Madisonville went okay. I had a really great tailwind to push me along. I made 24 miles before noon. I got into Madisonville before 2 p.m.

I have maybe three or four more days left in Texas before crossing back into Louisiana. From Lousiana, I'll be riding back to Sopchoppy, Florida (in the Panhandle of Florida). After Sopchoppy, Florida, my heart has me thinking about riding up to Kentucky and then up to New York and possibly Maine.
