TRIP 2002 UPDATES
Update #11 - Feb 22nd, 2002
Eunice, LA - 2,057 miles
The ride through the rest of Texas went okay. I had thirty miles to ride to the Lousiana State Line. It was great being
able to ride across the Sabine River. I wasn't able to do so on my ride into Texas since the highway that I was on
(U.S. 90) joined 1-10 and the bridge over the Sabine River down there was under construction.
The ride the past couple of days has been okay. Nothing major happened which is great in itself. No bike problems to
mention. There have been good shoulders to ride along. Yesterday, the temperature got into the low seventies. Today,
it is in the sixties with a brisk crosswind coming from the Northeast at about fifteen miles per hour.
Overall, the reception that I got in Texas was a lot better than what I received in Florida. The past two nights in
Lousiana have been okay. I was hosted by the First Baptist Church in De Ridder and the Ministerial Alliance in Kinder
donated a motel room. This is more than I expected since I do not ask for motel rooms and just ask for floor space in
either a Sunday school room or church fellowship hall.
I've changed my route through Louisiana. I decided to ride straight east across Louisiana instead of angling Northeast
through Alexandria, Louisiana to Natchez, Mississippi. For most of the way, I will be riding along U.S. 190. Between
Opelousas and New Roads, I'll be tracing the route that I took last October 26th. There is a good toll ferry across the
Mississippi River between New Roads and St. Francisville. From St. Francisville, I'll be riding along LA 10 to
Franklinton and then heading Northeast to Columbia, MS. My ride in Louisiana will be about 280 miles.
