TRIP 2002 UPDATES
Update #16 - Mar 22nd, 2002
Chattanooga, TN - 3,172 miles
The ride between Cordele, GA and Chattanooga, TN went okay. Traffic for the most part was very light. I basically
followed U.S. 41 to the Tennessee state line.
The hardest part for this section was navigating through Atlanta, Georgia. I made it through in just four hours. This
was pretty good considering all of the traffic that I had to deal with and there was a lot of hills to climb over.
For the most part, the weather had been really good. Temperatures climbed into the eighties. I did have one day of
rain. I still made over fifty miles that day. Today, the weather is down right cold with temperatures only in the
high thirties. The worst thing is the winds coming from the north at over fifteen miles per hour.
With regards to churches, I hit some good ones and then some bad ones. I've been fortunate and blessed to have three
motel rooms donated in a row. I did stay in the United Methodist Church in Hampton, Georgia. Rev. John Alexander was
really helpful. Hopefully, I will find some good churches in Tennessee. I estimate that I have about one hundred
forty miles to ride in Tennessee.
Plans are still being made for the ride to Kentucky and then on to Northern New York and possibly Maine.
