TRIP 2002 UPDATES
Update #27 - June 03rd, 2002
Augusta, Maine - 4,569 miles
I moved from the summer camp outside of Winthrop to a rooming house just a couple of blocks from the orthopaedic surgeon's
office and the hospital last Tuesday. Hopefully, I'll be hearing from the orthopaedic surgeon's office later on this
afternoon to tell me when the operation is scheduled.
The head of my left humurus had been broken into four pieces. The only thing that has been keeping my left arm from
flopping around has been my upper arm muscles. It is going to be major surgery to repair it since they have to cut my arm
muscles to get to the damage. There hasn't been a definite decision on whether pins or screws will be used or a combination
of both.
The surgery should have been done last week but things didn't go as planned. The worry now is that it needs to be done soon
so that too much calcification of the fragments doesn't occur so that surgery will not be more tricky than expected. The
operation will be at least four hours long. As it stands now, I think that there is still a seventy percent chance that
the surgery will come out okay and I will have full use of my arm after rehab. There is still a thirty percent chance
that even with the surgery the humurus head will still die due to lack of blood circulation.
The problem with my left elbow was just some bruising and swelling. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude and hope that
I'll be able to get back to the ministry that ADONAI called me out to do. If I ever get back on the road from the accident,
it will not be until at least September.
All I can do now is pray that things will work out and have faith. Any prayers would be appreciated.
