TRIP 2002 UPDATES
Update #36 - September 16th, 2002
Portland, IN - 6,370 miles
The last week or so has been pretty interesting because of it's strangeness. The journey almost came to an abrupt halt
between London and Mt. Vernon, KY. A major joint of the recumbent frame broke. Somehow a stress fracture almost went
clear through the major tube of the frame. If I hadn't gotten off the bent when I did, I might have had two pieces of
bike. It was lucky for me that a Good Samaritan picked me up alongside the highway in his truck. It was also a blessing
since he had a welder at his home. It took four welding rods to finish the job but the frame was fixed.
Late Monday afternoon (September 2nd) while I was finishing the last four miles into Nocholasville, KY. a guy in a pick-up
truck hit the mirror on my handlebar with the mirror on his truck. My mirror was destroyed and I took a minor spill onto
the pavement. I just got some scrapes and a bump on my elbow and maybe a few bruised ribs. This could have been a serious
but it wasn't. The recumbent came out unharmed.
The rest of the ride through Kentucky went okay and I haven't had any major problems here in Indiana. I'm on the way to
Ft. Wayne. I should be there tomorrow. I'm hoping that this might be a stopping point for the year.
As I wrote in other updates, I'm not sure where I'll be going or how long I will be out. Each day and mile cycled will be
with ADONAI's and Y'SHUA's comfort, help, and guidance.
