TRIP 2002 UPDATES
Update #38 - October 08th, 2002
Fort Wayne, IN - 6,435 miles
It has been almost three weeks since I arrived in Fort Wayne. My body is liking the fact that it has some time to recover
from all of the pitfalls that I've had this year. The ribs on the left side seem to have recovered from the mishap that
I had with a truck outside of Nicholsville, KY. I'm still having a hard time getting used to sleeping in a bed. I've had
to try out three beds so far to try and get some rest.
Currently, I am waiting for the replacement frame for my recumbent to arrive at my friend's house where I am staying at.
It is supposed to have been sent out today. I hope that it arrives soon. My concern now is that I hope that they have
included the fork and headset that I sent in to be checked out or have included new ones. If they hadn't done it, my
wait here in Ft. Wayne will be several more weeks. I'm just hoping that I can get all of the parts back on to the new
frame and adust the cables properly. If I do have any problem, there is a bike shop in Fort Wayne that sells
recumbents.
My checking with some of the local ministers here in Ft. Wayne to see if maybe there might be a ministry that I could
either volunteer with or maybe work part-time with over the winter didn't really go very well. There are quite a few
ministries but no real volunteer programs with housing. I have been doing some volunteer work with local churches
that have food banks.
Once back on the road, I'm looking at riding to St. Louis, MO to check out a Catholic ministry that works with the
homeless. From there, weather permitting, I might ride to Little Rock, Arkansas to check out the Heifer Project.
There is also the possibility that I might just head south to Acadiana in Louisiana to check out the recovery effort
after Hurricane Lili and Tropical Storm Isadore. I have quite a few minister friends in the effected area.
Maybe if I can take some time off the road in the future, I might be able to write or start to write that book that
everybody wants me to write. We'll have to see. It's up to ADONAI now. As I have always said, each day and mile cycled
will be with ADONAI's and Y'SHUA's comfort, help, and guidance.
