TRIP 2003 UPDATES
Update #31 - July 30, 2003
Sedalia, MO - 6,214.6 miles (9,943.4 kms.)
This is basically a copy of the last update except for crossing into Missouri a couple of days ago. (I accidently erased
the last update from Dodge City, KS). The biggest thing has been the heat. For the past twelve days while riding through
Kansas, the afternoon temperature had been in the triple digits. It got up to 107 a couple of days ago in Osage City, KS.
Tomorrow, the high temperature should only be in the high nineties.
Because of the heat, I've been getting on the road early (before 7 a.m.) and trying to complete the day's ride in the
morning. For the past five days, I was quite fortunate in having four donated motel rooms and a night at a Bed and
Breakfast in Osage City, KS. I'll probably be sleeping in my tent the next couple of days because I'm going to be trying
to ride along the KATY Trail towards St. Louis. For the most part the road service is crushed limestone. The tires are
fairly new so I hope to not have much problem.
I'm not sure whether I'll be heading NW to Hannibal, MO (where I have some friends) and I'll be crossing the Mississippi
River there) or riding to St. Louis. We will have to see the next couple of days on my ride along the KATY Trail.
I did get into another newspaper. Here is a
LINK
to the story. (Please hit BACK to come back to this page.
I'll try to post an update as often as I can if there are any changes in my plans.
