TRIP 2005 UPDATES
Update #5 - Feb 24th, 2005
Sealy, TX - 1815.0 miles (2904.0 kms.)
The ride from Brooksville, MS to Sealy, TX went okay except for some rain. I basically took a westerly route across
Mississippi and Lousiana. I rode through and stopped in Macon, Louisville, Philadelphia, Forest, Brandon, Hazelhurst,
Brookhaven, and Meadville, MS I had crossed the Mississippi River at Natchez, MS. In Louisiana, I rode through and
stopped for the night in Ferriday, Jena, Winnfield, Natchitoches, and De Ridder. I spoke at the Presbyterian Church
in Ferriday.
The one bad thing that happened during this section was that I got run out of town by the chief of police in Jena, LA.
The guy had in his mind that I was just a scam artist and I needed to not bother any of the local pastors. Even though
it was getting late, I had to leave town. I did come across a very nice Church of the Nazerene minister about four miles
out of Jena who allowed me to stay in the church fellowship hall for the night along with getting me supper and breakfast.
The next day a lady in Winnfield, LA provided me with a room at the local Best Western along with a meal voucher.
The people here in Texas have been pretty friendly. I did have to get a new rear tire in Cleveland, TX. The only problem
is that it is a low-pressure one and I'm not sure how long it will last. I've ridden and stopped for the night in Jasper,
Livingston. Shepherd, Cleveland, Navasota, and Bellville, TX. I spoke at the Methodist Church in Livingston. This was my
fifth church for the night. Saturday, February 19th was also the 12th anniversary when this adventure started.
Currently, I'm heading towards Corpus Christi. I might be riding down to the Mexican Border. If not, I'll be heading to
Alice, TX and then heading northward around San Antonio and Austin and eventually heading west south of Dallas so that I
can ride through the Texas Panhandle. I figuere that I've got at least another month of riding here in Texas and I probably
will not cross in Oklahoma until the 1st of April.
I'll try and post and update as often as I can if my plans change.
