TRIP 2005

Update #06 - March 07th
Taylor, Texas - 2312 miles (3699 KM)

The ride from Sealy, Texas went okay except for some rain. I was planning to ride from Corpus Christi down to the Mexican Border but I opted out because I heard on the radio about some violence along the Mexican Border. I opted to make my way north towards Dallas squirting around San Antonio and Austin instead. I did ride to the edge of Corpus Christi (Robstown).

I spoke at three churches along the way. In Cuero (two Sundays ago (Feb. 27th)), I got the chance to speak during the service at Trinity Church. The pastor had stopped me alongside the road before the service and invited me to worship with them. After speaking for about six minutes and being prayed over, the pastor surprised me by calling for a "love offering". When it was counted out, it came to around $250. This is the biggest church offering for the year. That night, I got to speak for a few minutes at the First Baptist Church in Goliad. Last Sunday, March 06th), I got to speak to a Sunday School class at the Methodist church in Bastrop, TX. I was also introduced to the congregation at the beginning of the service. This was the eighth church that I spoke at this year.

Overall, except for the rain, I have had a pretty good ride so far in Texas. The only real problem as been the rough shoulders of the roadways because of chip-sealing (stones in asphalt that is not really crushed down and smooth). Because of this, my front tire tread blew out between Karnes City and Luling. It was lucky for me that I was carrying a front spare tire. I should have a new front tire waiting for me at a bike shop in Waco.

Currently, I'm heading towards Waco. I should be riding through Waco either this Wednesday or Thursday. From Waco, I'll be heading west south of Dallas so that I can ride through the Texas Panhandle. I figure that I've got at least another three more weeks riding here in Texas and I probably will not cross in Oklahoma until the 1st of April.

I'll try and post and update as often as I can if my plans change.
