TRIP 2006 UPDATES

Update #12 - May 02, 2006
Wilmore, KY
1364.2 miles ( 2182.7 kms) since March 27th,
1855.5 miles ( 2968.8 kms) since Jan 01st

I'd thought I'd post this before getting back in the road in an hour and a half. As I always said plans change. Well, they are changing now. I was planning to ride from Wilmore, KY to Granite City, IL and then heading to Pueblo - Colorado Springs, CO but I'm not going to be cycling to Granite City, IL. I called up my friends last night to tell them that I'm heading their way. They told me that they wouldn't be in the area when I got there. It turns out that they are getting ready to go to their first grandchild's wedding in Ft. Wayne, IN. Even though I'm maybe 320 - 350 miles away, I don't want to try and push it just for an over-night visit. The visit wouldn't be relaxed. It would be a tight schedule trying to get 50+ miles in every day (hopefully ending in a town so I can find a place inside for the night other than my tent and one Spring thunderstorm could make a big dent in my schedule.

This leaves me in a bit of a quandry since there are not many crossings of the Ohio River from Kentucky. I'm either two days ride from Louisville, KY or Madison, IN. I've got some new friends in Madison who I met last Fall. Riding through Louisville would be tricky since this is the week of the Kentucky Derby. I could stay here in Kentucky for a little while and cross the Ohio River at Paducah, KY.

I'd like to visit with some Warm Showers members in Southern Illinois and cross the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau (know I've probably butchered the name), MO. This would having me ride across Missouri south of the St. Louis area. Just getting through today will be a little tricky since there is a band of showers that is coming my way. I'll just be taking it day by day and seeing where the road takes me. I do want to be in Colorado Springs, CO way before June 15th (which will be my 50th birthday).

I'll try and post and update as often as I can if my plans change.
