This leg of the trip is over for a while. I made it to the Katrina Relief Center in Waveland, MS this morning. I'll be here for a while doing some relief work. I'm not sure what I'll be doing since I'll find that out tomorrow. There's not much activity now but that will change soon since there is to be a big group coming in.

The ride from Mary Esther, FL to Waveland, MS went okay. I alternated from either sleeping in my sleeping bag in my tent to sleeping in a bed. I camped out near Gasque, AL and Pass Christian, MS and I stayed at the Volunteer Center at the First Baptist Church in Grand Bay, AL. What helped me the most was being able to take the ferry between Fort Morgan and Dauphin Island, AL. This ferry ride cut nearly 110 miles off the trip and saved me the hassle of trying to ride through Mobile, AL.

The trickiest part of the ride was between Ocean Springs and Waveland, MS. Bicycles are not allowed on the new bridge between Ocean Springs and Biloxi. I had to find an alternate route through D'Iberville. U.S. 90 between Biloxi and Pass Christian was not the most bicycle friendly route to ride along. For thirty miles, I had to constantly check my rear-view mirror and pull out of traffic on the side of the road to wait for all of the incoming traffic to go passed. The new bridge between Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis wasn't really bike friendly but I was able to get across the bridge by riding against the traffic.

I might be here at the Katrina Relief Center at least through the rest of the month and maybe half of the next. From Waveland, I'd like to head west to Galveston, Tx with possible stopovers in New Orleans and Houma, LA.

I'll try and post and update as often as I can if my plans change. The next update should be posted between November 22nd and November 29th. Hopefully, I'll have more to write about by then.
