MISSION TRIP 17 - 2008

Update 11 - April 18th, 2008
BLAIR, NEBRASKA
1,728.89 miles (2,766.22 kms)

This is the sixth update from the road. Winter has not left. This should be Spring but it is not. I am about a week behind schedule. Last week was a bust because of the bad weather. I flip-flopped between Algona and Humboldt. This week the first part of the week was bad because there was also bad winds. I struggled against 20 and 40 mph winds. I accepted a ride between Auburn and Carroll, Iowa.

Yesterday, I had to take another day off because of bad weather in Denison. Even though there was cold weather and some light rain today, I made 64 miles to Blair, Nebraska. I did this since I had the winds to my back. The winds was pushing so that I was traveling between 13 and 16 mph. Even though I got on the road around 9 a.m. and took several long breaks, I still made 24 miles by noon. I've been trying to make the first 40 miles by 2 p.m. Today, I had the 40 miles in my 1:30 p.m. I got into Blair by 4 p.m.

Across Nebraska, I am following U.S. 30 through Columbus, Cozad, Fremont, Grand Island, Kearney, North Platte, and Ogallala. I am hoping to cross into Colorado by April 30th. This will have me start the climb through the Rockies around May 06th. Because of all of the delays, I will be in Portland, Oregon by June 15th instead of Seattle, Washington.

Well, this is all I think I need to write now. The next update should be posted between April 25th and May 02nd.
