TRIP 2008

Update #23 - October 27th
Americus, Georgia
8968 miles (14,349 KM)

It's been less than two weeks since I've posted an update. Things have been happening. Saturday, Oct 26th, I received the parts needed to overhaul "Alice my recumbent" from Arnold's Bicycle Repair to order the parts that I need. I will be taking the recumbent tomorrow to CycleWorld bike shop in Albany, Georgia. Hopefully, I will have my recumbent back by the weekend so I can get some training rides in. The start of my next missionary tour is getting close. I am looking at getting back on the road sometime between November 08th and November 15th.

Thanks to Rev. Hutchens and Calvary Episcopal Church here in Americus, Georgia I was able to purchase a new pair of rear panniers (bike saddle bags) from Bike Nashbar . They are a little smaller than my older ones but I will make them work. Being that they are a little smaller I will be carrying less and that means that the load on my recumbent will be a little lighter. The only thing that I have to do is sew up some pockets on the panniers so that I can carry some water bottles.

Because of the extra money, I will be better connected to the internet while on the road. Back in April, the screen of my last laptop got broken at a church in Kansas where I was spending the night. The only way that I could use the laptop was connecting it to another monitor. In June, the laptop completely gave up the ghost. Through eBay, I was able to purchase another laptop. I'll be carrying an IBM Winbook. The laptop is about 12 years old and the operating system is Windows 98 but I hope to upgrade it to Windows XP before I get on the road.

There will be another update next week to talk about my upcoming trip.
