TRIP 2008

Update #26 - November 27th
Hattiesburg, Mississippi
568 miles (909 KM) since November 15th
9535 miles (15,256 KM) since January 01st

Happy Thanksgiving. This is the second Thanksgiving in a row that I celebrated in Mississippi. Last year, I celebrated Thanksgiving at the Katrina Volunteer Center in Waveland, Mississippi where I was doing relief work. This year, I sat down for turkey with the large family of some new friends of mine (Johnny and Tricia). I had actually met Johnny back in June in Monroe, Washington. He was with a group of people from several churches in the Hattiesburg area who were building a new sanctuary for the First Baptist Church in Monroe. I had spent the night there.

I'm basically at the halfway point of the trip. I have cycled 567.54 miles (908.08 km) for the trip so far. I have got at least 540 miles (864 KM) to go to the Galveston, Texas area. I've been doing okay but I did get a little sick a couple of days ago after I got caught in a really hard rain storm while I was coming into Mississippi. I camped out in the youth room of the United Methodist Church in Waynesboro.

I am thinking about changing my route a little bit. I'll be heading to Louisiana from McComb and then heading west to St. Francisville and the ferry across the Mississippi River there. I am still looking at arriving in the Galveston, Texas area around December 11th.

My next update will be posted between December 03rd and December 10th.
