TRIP 2008

Update #27 - December 03rd
Kinder, Louisiana
878 miles (1405 KM) since November 15th
9845 miles (15,762 KM) since January 01st

My trip getting to Southeast Texas is almost over. I should be crossing into Texas Friday morning. Currently, I'm less than 60 miles (96 km) from the Texas State Line. The ride from Hattiesburg, Mississippi went okay. From Hattiesburg, I headed west for a couple of days stopping for the night in Columbia and ending in McComb. I was going to travel another day west to Wilmore but because of a stiff headwind I turned south and opted to cross into Louisiana early.

After spending the night at the First Baptist Church in Kentwood, Louisiana, I had sort of a long day heading west through Jackson to St Francisville where I got the ferry across the Mississippi River to New Roads. I got the next to the last ferry heading west. I was hoping to stop for the night at the First Baptist Church but I had missed the pastor but I was hosted by St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Methodist Church in Opelousas hosted me for the night.

Tonight, I'm in Kinder. Tomorrow, I have about a 50 mile (80 KM) ride to Vinton, Louisiana. I'm looking forward to stop at the Methodist Church in Vinton where I had stayed before. The tricky thing Friday would be getting across the Sabine River to Orange, Texas. I will have to ride along the shoulder of I-10 for about 8 miles and get off at the first exit in Texas. Right now, I'm under 200 miles (320 KM) from Galveston.

My next update will be posted between December 10th and December 17th.
