TRIP 2009

Update #04 - February 21st
Americus, Georgia
264 miles (422 KM) since Jan 01st

For the past week, I have been working on the route that I plan (hope) to follow this upcoming trip. Weather permitting, I will be heading out from Americus, Georgia Monday, March 23rd. The trip will be around 9,500 miles (15,300 km) long and it will take me through thirty-one states and the District of Columbia. I will be first traveling down to Central Florida. From Florida, I will be traveling up the East Coast to Northern Maine. I am hoping to get into Northern Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont this year. I After Vermont, I will be traveling west to Eastern Colorado before heading through the Southern States before arriving back in Americus right before Thanksgiving.

This will be the third trip that I have pretty well planned out. I have set it up so that I will be able to take most of the Sundays off and I have included some days of service. I am planning to visit quite a few chapters of the Fuller Center For Housing and several affiliates of Habitat For Humanity to see if I could help out in some house construction. This is in honor of Millard Fuller who recently passed away.

With three quarters of the stops along the way, I will have a good chance for home visits. I am a member of two associations (CouchSurfing and Hospitality Club) and there are a lot of members on my route. This planning was unintentional but it is interesting. Also, I have gotten some contacts and invitations through MySpace. Right now, I've got six tentative speaking engagements along the way. I'll be starting to contact people along the route in two weeks to see if they are available for stopovers.

Last Thursday a mile stone passed without much fanfare. Feb 19th was the 16th anniversary of when this adventure started. It's hard to believe that it has been sixteen years since I heard the word "GO" in the dream. I had no idea that this adventure would have ever lasted so long when I left in that snow storm in Portland, Oregon back in 1993. At least, I'll be on the road for the 16th anniversary of my ministry

The next update should be between March 01 and March 08.
