TRIP 2009

Update #24 - August 09th
Checoth, Oklahoma
6282 miles (10,051 KM) since March 22nd
6541 miles (10,466 KM) since January 01st

The ride to Checotah, Oklahoma from Kingman, Kansas went okay except that I had to make short days because of the high heat especially in the afternoons. The high temperature has been in the high nineties but the heat index has been low one hundreds. I spent the night in Harper and Wellington, Kansas and Concordia; Lindsborg, Great Bend, and Blackwell, Perry, Perkins, Bristow, and Okmulgee, Oklahoma. One of the special places where I stayed at along the way was in a cabin at the Oak Park Methodist Retreat Center in Perkins, Oklahoma.

Because of the heat, I have only been riding between 30 miles (48 KM) and 40 miles (64 KM) per day. Outside of Blackwell, Oklahoma, I had to find some cover for about forty minutes to wait out a fast moving thunderstorm. Nothing else major happened along the way.

I've got one or two more days in Oklahoma before I swing east into Arkansas near Ft. Smith. I'll be riding to Little Rock, Arkansas. From Little Rock, I will be possibly be swinging Northeast into Missouri and cross the Mississippi River so that I could ride up the Ohio River to possibly Cincinnati, Ohio. I was going to ride south into Texas and then head heat through Northern Louisiana, Mississippi, and Iowa back to Georgia but it is still too hot to ride in the South.

The next update should be between August 17 and August 24.
