TRIP 2009

Update #30 - November 17th
Americus, Georgia
7383 miles (11,813 KM) since March 22nd
7646 miles (12,234 KM) since January 01st

There hasn't been a lot of things happening since my last update. For the last three and a half weeks and almost 15 hours each day, I've been working on this website. I have been wanting for several years to make this website compatible for all browsers using W3C standards. This means that no matter what browser a person uses the pages looks the same.

In the beginning of the website, I designed the pages so that they would look basically the same with Internet Explorer and Netscape. With Internet Explorer, there is a built in fudge factor that will try and decipher badly written HTML code and try to display it properly. This is not the case with new browsers such as Firefox, Google Chrome, or Opera.

The main way to make website pages look the same with all browsers is to have clean code, whether it is either HTML or XHTML. When I write code, I do not use HTML generating software or editors. I decided to switch code from HTML Basic to XHTML 1.0 Transitional. To convert the code, I used an online HTML to XHTML converter from
"CRUTO" .

This got the code converted to around eighty percent. To convert the code the rest of the way, I used CSE HTML Validator Lite v9.03. You can get a free version of the software by following this
"LINK" .

To obtain the W3C Markup Validation, I used the online validator that can be found by following this
"LINK" .

Depending how much code was used to develop a page, the whole process from start to finish can be from twenty minutes to several hours. With the Trip Logs, there were in some case over 5000 lines of code to convert and validate.

There were between 950 and 1000 pages of HTML to convert and validate. I am glad that I took on this task because I was able to make sure that all of the thousands of hyperlinks work and if not find new replacements for the links. What are my next plans for the website. I'm looking at possibly make an animated flash entrance for the website and to scan all of the photos that I took while on the road between 1993 and 2003 and put them in public albums on my
"HOME PAGE" at Google's Picasaweb.

The next update should be between November 24 and October 01.
