TRIP 2010

Update #11 - April 13th
Tavares, Florida
1,065.47 miles (1,704.75 KM)

Third update for the trip. These past couple of weeks have been hard. Alice has been showing her age because things have been wearing out a little faster than what I had expected. I was finally able to get the headset worked on thanks to some new friends in Palm Harbor, Florida. The next things that I had to replace were the disc brake pads. I had a hard time finding replacements for these. Hopefully, these will last me through the trip.

There is now a weird creak or squeak coming from the rear of the recumbent. It sounds like metal breaking but it isn't. I was hoping to get a new rear rack before the start of the trip but I wasn't able to. What I need is to get a new seat frame. Last year, I had to get the bottom of the frame welded when I was in Pennsylvania. The problem is that I'm not sure where I could find another frame.

It's been hard for me both me physically and mentally. I got sick and I spent almost three days camping out in the woods alongside the road while I tried to recover. I was glad that I had plenty of water since I had stopped to get an extra liter of water to carry along. I haven't been able to get some rest because I've been suffering from some insomnia. Hopefully, I'll get over it soon.

I made a big change in plans. I'm not going to be heading west to Texas and Colorado. By the time I would have gotten to Texas it would have been during the middle of thunderstorm and tornado season. I took off the tentative map off of the Trip page. After visiting some friends in the Orlando area, I'll be heading up the Atlantic Seaboard. We'll just have to see what the rest of this trip comes out.

I'll try and add a new update every two weeks along the way so the next one will be April 30th.
