TRIP 2010

Update #19 - July 25th
Warroad, Minnesota
4.886.42 miles (7,818.26 KM)

Eleventh update for the trip.

When I got to Thief River Falls, I decided to change my route slightly. Instead of swinging slightly northwest to Hallock, Minnesota, which is close to the Minnesota - North Dakota state lines and the Canadian border, I decided to ride straight north to Greenbush and then turn east to International Falls. The ride from my last update point had been okay. I made stops Brainerd, Pine River, Walker, Park Rapids, Detroit Lakes, Mahnomen, and International Falls. Last night, I stopped in Roseau.

I'm not sure if I am going to be able to go to International Falls afterall. I learned today that there is road construction between Baudette and International Falls. They are replacing culverts. The detour for cars is supposed to be around 160 miles. If I had a passport, I could cross over the Rainy River into Ontario, Canada and then ride. Hopefully, I will be able to get through and ride the 71 miles to International Falls. If I can't, I am going to have to ride 60 miles south on MN 72 to Kelither and then take a different route to Duluth.

From Duluth, I will be riding US 2 in northern Wisconsin to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. After my ride through both peninsulas of Michigan, I'm going to riding through the north section of Ohio and then ride to the G.A.P. (Great Appalachian Passage Bike Trail) in Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. I really want to ride the G.A.P. again and also the C&O Towpath maybe toW ashington, D.C. I did that in 2008 but I didn't have a digital camera back then. I'm not sure what route I will be taking between Washington, DC and Americus, Georgia. I'll be going through Springfield, Georgia since I've got an invite from a chaplain that works with a truck stop ministry.

I'll try and add a new update every two weeks along the way so the next one will be around August 08th.
