 me outside in the snow

Snow ... Snow ... Go Away ... Come back another day.

It's been seven weeks since the snow started falling the beginning of December and I have basically had enough. It was fun for the first couple of weeks but now it really isn't. Today, it was lightly snowing but it didn't measure up to much. A couple of days ago it pretty well snowed all day long. The temperature got up to 34 degrees (+1 C) today. We got about 6 inches (15.24 cm) of snow. I think that the total for the winter is around 30 inches (76.2 cm) of snow spread out. Downtown, there is a pile of snow that is around 11 feet (3.35 meters) tall. I don't remember if I had ever experienced as much snow up in Portland, Oregon and Spokane, Washington, which were the two northern cities that I lived in at least 17 years ago.

I've never had to dress as warm as I do. The jacket that Mrs Carvell is letting me use was her deceased husband's when he was in the air force in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It must weight at least 10 pounds (4.6 kg). When I get ready to walk to any where like the post office, I feel that I'm at least 16 pounds (7.3 kg) heavier from my extra layers of clothes and the thick boots. I miss wearing just my cycling clothes. Now, I've got to wear at least three layers of clothes below my waist and four layers of clothes abouve my waist. I've got to be careful how much clothes I wear under the jacket because I could get hypothermia from the soaked inner clothes from the sweat from exercise. The walk to the post office is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) one way but on the way back the walk seems to be up thirty flights of virtual stairs because the house is about 3/4 the way up a side of a hill.

The temperature has been freezing. Yesterday, the temperature got down to -18 Degrees Fahrenheit (-28 Degrees Celsius) but the wind chill factor was around -30 Degrees Fahrenheit (-34 Degrees Celcius) and the high was 5 Degrees Fahrenheit (-15 Degrees Celcius). Today, the high was 16 Degrees Fahrenheit (-9 Degrees Celcius). I cannot wait for it to get warm again. I miss getting on my recumbent (Alice) and going out for a ride. The last time that I was on Alice was back on November 18th, 2010 when I was in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Sometime in late March or early April, I will be starting to plan my route. I will be traveling to the West Coast and back. I was thinking about staying up north on my way west but I think that I will head south before I turn westward. This will have me riding up the Pacific Coast instead of heading southwards down the coast.

I'll try and add a new update every two weeks along the way so the next one will be around February 05th, 2011.
