TRIP 2011

Update #06 - March 04th
Savanna, Illinois
00.00 miles (00.00 KM)

The first official day of Spring is supposed to be jut 16 days away and I cannot wait. The temperature is climbing. Currently, it is 42 Fahrenheit (+6 Celcius). Hopefully, it will stay this way and get warmer. The snow is finally going away. The ice stalagmite that had grown from the condensation from the exhaust of the gas heater is almost gone. At one point in Winter, it was almost 5 feet (1.5 meter) tall but now it is a little over a foot (.3 meter) tall.

Alice still hasn't come back from the bike shop. I do not want to rush my friend, Gary. He has been so kind in the past in doing the repairs at a reduced or no cost. It wouldn't really matter if I head out without much training rides since the terraign in the area is not flat. I think that I will be okay with no training rides in because I am going to be riding down the Mississippi on the Illinois side and it is mostly flat. I've made and sewn on some new pockets for my water bottles on my panniers.

I am making some plans on my route. From Savanna, Illinois, I will be heading down the East side of the Mississippi River through Quincy, Illinois to Memphis, Tennessee, and then on to Greenville, Mississippi. At Greenville, I will be crossing the Mississippi River and then head to Shreveport, Louisiana where I will be stopping for a few days and volunteering with the Fuller Center For Housing and help them build some homes.

I will keep everybody abreast through upcoming updates. Usually, I try and add a new update every two weeks along the way so the next one will be around March 18th, 2011.
