TRIP 2011

Update #24 - September 21st
Bay St Louis, Mississippi
6,110.83 miles (9,777.33 KM)

Just a short update. I'll be crossing back into Louisiana tomorrow morning and I've got around 370 miles (592 KM) to ride to Shreveport. I'm really looking forward to getting back to Shreveport. I have about a week more of riding left in this trip.

I am looking forward for this year's trip to be over. I've experienced a lot of bicycle and equipment failures. Late Sunday afternoon, the back seat section broke loose. The bolt that was in the pin had come loose. When the seat back came loose, there was nothing holding the rear rack in place so it slipped backwards. This action snapped one of the seat struts and also damaged one of the rack supports. I was able to get the two pieces of the seat together with several feet of picture hanging wire and a liberal amount of electrical tape to fix the rack and seat strut. It took me almost 90 minutes to get the repair finished.

When I get back to Shreveport, I will be volunteering again with the
Fuller Center For Housing of NW Louisiana in Shreveport. I was there for four weeks in May. I will possibly be in Shreveport till at least February or April of next year. Shreveport will become my new homebase.

I will keep everybody abreast through upcoming updates. Usually, I try and add a new update every two weeks along the way so the next one will be around October 02nd, 2011.
