TRIP 2013

Update #01 - February 02nd
Valdosta, Georgia
3,916.52 miles (6,266.43 KM) - Mission Trip 33
836.15 miles (1,337.84 KM) - Year Total

The mission trip that I started last October isn't over. I've been meaning to post an update but there hasn't been much to write about. Between December 06, 2012 and January 30, 2013, I rode around Florida trying to find some ministry where I could stop at, possibly stay over, and volunteer at but it didn't happen. I needed to be someplace for at least two weeks so a new bankcard could be sent to me. I rode a little over 1,500 miles (2,400 KM) around Florida. I checked out ministries in Brooksfield, Daytona Beach, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Ocala, Orlando, St Augustine, and Titusville. The problem with quite a few of them was that the information for them was wrong and I couldn't make contact with anybody.

I met quite a few nice people who went out of their way to help me. A fireman in Live Oak, Florida paid for a motel room out of his pocket. The desk clerk at the motel in Live Oak surprised me by giving me a bag of drinks and food. The youth pastor at the First Baptist Church in Wildwood, Florida went out and bought me several bags of drinks and food. I met some really nice ministers in Bartow, Daytona Beach, Lake City, Orange Park, Palatka, and Rockledge. I did get a few days off the road in Bartow, Lake City, Orange Park, Reddick, and Wildwood.

Most of the other ministers that I came in contact with were really not that friendly. The biggest response that I got was that I was a homeless person and I should got to either a homeless shelter or a rescue mission. This got me really discouraged and depressed. I spent several nights in my tent camping out. Finding a place to camp out was really hard because of the lack of woods.

I'm on the way to Savannah, Georgia. I've got a place to stay there for a little while. I've already contacted my bank to have a new bankcard sent to that address. It's hard to believe that in 16 days I'll be passing the twentienth anniversary when this adventure started. The main goal for the next couple of months will be to slowly ride up the Eastern Seashore and go up to New Jersey to help out with the recovery after Hurricane Sandy.

The next trip update should be posted sometime around February 16th.
