TRIP 2013

Update #06 - March 28th
Amherst, Virginia
Mission Trip 34: 477.30 miles (763.68 KM)
1,827.03 miles (2,923.25 KM) - Year Total

The past two weeks have been okay. There were quite a few hills to get over. I made nightly stops in Cheraw, South Carolina ; Rockingham, Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Sanford, Fuquay Varina, Garson, and Youngsville, North Carolina ; South Boston, Brookneal, Lynchburg, and Amherst, Virginia. In Garson and Youngsville, North Carolina, I stayed with new friends who I met through A Candle In the Window Christian Hospitality Network. Along the way, I got to speak to people at churches in Southern Pines, North Carolina ; South Boston and Lynchburg, Virginia . At the Baptist church in Fuquay Varina, Virginia, an interview was videotaped and it will be shown at another date.

I was hoping to follow Spring as it made it's way up North but I got caught in the last gasp of Winter in Virginia.

Temperatures went from the sixties to fourties. Morning temperatures got down into the upper twenties. Temperatures should be getting up into the sixties this weekend.

Yesterday, I finished up the first leg of the trip to Amherst, Virginia. This was also the twentieth anniversary of my ministry. On March 27, 1993, I left the pier at Santa Monica, California on faith heading East into the desert with an atm card that I hadn't got turned on. I don't count the time between February 19, 1993 and March 25, 1993 because I hadn't turned the trip over to the L-RD. During these past twenty years, I spent 5,999 days (16.4356 years) on the road doing ministry with 3,770.55 days (10.3303 years) actually cycling around the country.

From Amherst, I will be heading East to Virginia Beach where I will be getting a ride across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to the Del-Mar-Va Peninsula. I am riding to Coastal New Jersey to see what I can do to help out with the recovery effort after Hurricane Sandy. It should take me between two and three weeks to get to the Southern tip of New Jersey. After New Jersey, I plan to maybe spend a day or two in New York City and then ride along the coast to either Massachusetts or Maine. There might be a possibility that I will be doing some ministry in Staten Island, New York. I'm not sure where I will be riding after that. I'll probably be riding through the Midwest States.

The next trip update should be posted sometime around April 11th.
