My time off the road was almost three weeks. I wished that it could have been longer. I spent most of the time off the road staying at the
Friendship Baptist Church
in Reddick, Florida. One of the unused Sunday school classrooms had been turned into an Elisha's Den where somebody could stay for a little
while. I had planned to start this year's trip yesterday but I delayed the day because of rain.
It was well after 2 AM when I finally fell asleep. I always have problems sleeping the night before I head out. I slept lightly during
the rest of the evening. I woke up around 6:30 AM. When I looked out the door of my room, the sky was a little overcast but it wasn't raining.
I got on the road around 8:20 AM. The temperature was cool in the 60s but I didn't wear my jacket. It was a little foggy. There were rolling
hills to get over. On the outskirts of Williston, it started to rain lightly. I had to put my jacket on. I stopped for a short break at a gas
station. I switched from US 27 to US 27 A. By noon, I got 30 miles (48 KM) in by noon, I got into Branford a little after noon, I stopped for
a lunch break at a gas station.
The rest of the ride to Chiefland went okay. The sun came out so I was able to take my jacket off. I got into Chiefland around 2 PM. I stopped
at a grocery store for a few supplies. From the grocery store, it was a short ride to the Days Inn where I had a reservation. My friend in
Reddick had made the reservation for the room so I could start the trip on a good note. I got into my room around 2:45 PM.
The first leg of this trip will take me along the Gulf of Mexico. I'll probably ride as far as either Galveston or Corpus Christi, Texas.
Along the way, I'll stop along the way in Baldwin, Louisiana to check out the volunteer program at the United Methodist Disaster Relief
The next trip update should be posted sometime between January 17th and January 24th.
