TRIP 2017

Update #19 - September 04th
Rockford, Illinois
Mission Trip 7,075.28 miles (11,320.45 km)
Year Total : 5,124.05 miles (8,198.48 km)

The appointment Tuesday, August 29th, with the orthopedic specialist went well. X-rays were taken. The orthopedic specialist told me that the x-rays looked okay. The fractures are healing okay. Normally, he would have had me set up a follow-up appointment in two months but he said that it wasn't needed. He just told me that it was going to be a slow process to heal.

For the past four days, I've been started the process to transition myself from depending on the walker and starting to use the cane with the four legs. I have been pushing the walker with my left hand and holding the cane with my right hand. This seems to be working pretty good. Hopefully, I'll be just using the cane in another week.

Thursday, August 31st, my old recumbent was picked up from my lawyer's office in Rockford, Illinois and taken to the Arnolds Bikes shop in Thompson, Illinois. It looked kind of forloan on it's side in the bed of my friend's pick-up truck. I've added a picture of Alice below along with the last picture of me and Alice taken about four and a half hours before the accident.

Alice Wrecked

Alice and Hans July 29, 2017

The people at Arnolds haven't had the time to really check out damage but there were a lot of concerns. I'll be calling them back Wednesday, September 06. There is a EZ-Speedster-CX st the store. The frame is made out of Chrome-moly instead of aluminum and it has 24 speeds instead of 27 speeds. It does have ProMax disc brakes instead of Avid disc brakes. It might be two pounds heavier. The CX is red instead of silver.

I'm thinking about getting it instead of having them try and repair Alice. It shouldn't be that hard making this bent into a 27 speed. A narrower chain could be put on and the rear cluster can be switched. The old handlebar from Alice could be moved over and it would have the right gear shifts. Along with the handlebar, the below seat rack would be move over from Alice.

If I do get the CX, her name is going to be Chrissy.

The next update will be posted between September 11th and September 18th.
