TRIP 2018

Update #05 - March 08th
Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Year Total : 00.00 miles (00.00 km)

With regards to Mission Trip 73, I've decided to change the direction of my route. Instead of going clockwise (going north from Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Illinois before turning east), I've decided to go counter-clockwise. From Hattiesburg, I'll be going west to the Mississippi River (Woodville, Mississippi); south to Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and then turn east to Waveland, Mississippi (US 190); cycle along the Gulf Coast to Ft Myers, Florida (mostly along US 90); across FL to W Palm Beach, Florida; and ride up the East Coast to Portland, Maine or farther up to maybe Calais, Maine before turning west. It will be at least mid-May or early June when I get up into Maine.

I think that this would be a wiser decision with the neuro-muscular problem with my legs. By doing a lot of miles on level ground (at least 2,500 miles (4,000 km) will give me more time to strengthen up my legs before I have to do any hills. As an end-point of the trip, I'm thinking about making the trip a loop back to Hattiesburg. I'm looking at doing at least 5,300 miles (8,500 km) in this trip.

From Waveland, Mississippi to St Augustine, Florida is the reverse of the route that I took during the beginning of Mission Trip 72 back in November and December, 2017. From St Augustine, Florida to Kittery, Maine, would have been the last leg of Mission Trip 72. Going counter-clockwise would allow me to avoid any activity in the Southern tornado alley in the Spring and hurricane season in the Southeast.

The next update might be posted between March 15th and March 22nd.
